I am a Computer Science PhD Student at the University of Virginia advised by Afsaneh Doryab, and a member of the UVA Link Lab and the Human-AI Technology Lab. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Skidmore College in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and a minor in Business. I earned my Masters of Computer Science from the University of Virginia in August 2023, and a certification in Cyber-Physical Systems from the UVA Link Lab in May 2023.
Research Interests
My research interests include Human-Computer Interaction, Affective Computing, Machine Learning, Mobile Health and Wellness, and Cyber-Physical Systems. I am particularly interested in improving humans' and machines' communication capabilities, especially in health and well-being settings.
Other Interests
Outside of research, I am an avid hiker and collector of board games. I am also a member of UVA’s Computer Science Graduate Student Group, serving as the committee’s social chair from January 2022 through December 2023, and general co-chair in 2024.
March: I presented my dissertation plans at the PhD Forum at IEEE PerCom 2025 in Washington, DC.
February: I was honored to be a guest speaker at UVA's Women in Computing Sciences (WICS) Hackathon!
February: Our paper "Predicting the Severity of Anxiety in Adolescents Through Passively Sensed Behaviors" was accepted to IEEE/ACM CHASE 2025.
January: I will continue to participate in the Link Lab's mentorship program with Charlottesville High School. I will help a team of high schoolers learn engineering and product development skills.
October: I traveled to Melbourne Austrailia to present my papers "Changing Your Tune: Lessons for Using Music to Encourage Physical Acitivty" and "Creating Emotion-Evoking Music to Communicate Wellness for Participants with Diverse Musical Backgrounds" at UbiComp 2024.
September: I have begun participating in the Link Lab's mentorship program with Charlottesville High School. I will spend the semester guiding a student through his senior engineering capstone project.
July: Our workshop paper, "Creating Emotion-Evoking Music to Communicate Wellness for Participants with Diverse Musical Backgrounds" has been accepted for Wellcomp 2024, a workshop at UbiComp 2024!
May: I am proud to announce that I have passed my Qualification Exam!
May: I received the Outstanding Graduate Service Award from UVA Computer Science.
April: My paper, "Changing Your Tune: Lessons for Using Music to Encourage Physical Activity" has been accepted for publication the Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies.
January: I am now serving as the General Co-Chair of the UVA Computer Science Graduate Student Group.
December: I have been elected to serve as the general co-chair of UVA's computer science graduate student group with Tonmoy Hossain.
November: My team for the MIT Policy Hackathon has been selected as a finalist for the Affordable Housing competition.
October: I presented my paper "Sounds of Health: Using Personalized Sonification Models to Communicate Health Information" at Ubicomp 2023 in Cancun.
October: I presented my research during a poster session at the UVA Computer Science Research Symposium.
September: I have been selected as one of the UVA Link Lab Student Flashtalk Speakers for my work on communicating wellness information through music.
August: I have earned my Masters of Computer Science from UVA.
May: I earned my graduate certificate in Cyber-Physical Systems from UVA.
April: The System's Engineering Capstone Team I helped published their work, "Personalization in Circadian Rhythm-Based Event Scheduling," in the 2023 Systems and Information Engineering Design Symposium.
